Lots of green space and special "added touches" were done to help make the patients and their families feel more at ease during a difficult time.
Carved wooden animal figures (a different one on each floor) are located on each level to help children feel calm and also to remind them of which floor they are on. The emergency room area was doubled compared to the space in the old hospital.
Steve Orr and our team here at Aquarium Adventure designed and built a 1,400 gallon circular aquarium around a center post in the emergency room lobby. "We wanted the aquarium to grab your attention and thus maybe giving a little relief to why you were there, so it is large, beautifully decorated and loaded with hundreds of colorful African cichlids," said Steve.
It was built with super thick "kid-friendly" acrylic, knowing everyone will want to get up close to touch the aquarium and see the fish. All of the Life Support Systems (LSS) and special designed LED lighting equipment are hidden (with access for maintenance), so that the aquarium and its fish are the main focus.
