A Legacy of Aquatic Enthusiasm & Care
Owner Bill Wymard set up his first aquarium at the age of 10. He had no idea that, several decades later, he would be keeping over 500 aquariums, and still possess the same passion and enthusiasm for aquariums and fish that he did when he was young.
As Wymard grew, and earned his degree in Marine Biology, that excitement and passion became something more. It just seemed natural to him to blend his life-long dream with his marine knowledge and skills to build the biggest (and best) aquatic superstore in the country. In the late 1990’s, with the help of many talented, business colleagues, supportive friends and family members, he did just that!
In June of 1997, Aquarium Adventure opened to rave reviews from local and visiting customers alike. Designed to hold and showcase the largest selection of freshwater and marine fish in the nation, our 12,000 sq.ft. showroom quickly earned a sterling reputation for the best selection of aquatic life and custom tank design in the area, as well as a knowledgeable staff.
After more than 20 years, to this day, you’ll still find the massive inventory of aquariums, aquarium furniture and supplies that put Aquarium Adventure on the map! Our fish, plants, and invertebrates are presented to all in a way that is attractive, entertaining, and educational too. As one of our valued visitors, you can easily navigate our easy-to-follow store layout and find essential products – and many natural wonders – that you can bring home to have for your very own.

Our goal is to help you gain a better understanding of aquatic life and enjoy having a living ecosystem in your home or business.

Coral Restoration Fund
Marine Scientist Ken Nedimyer and Aquarium Adventure’s own Marine Biologist Bill Wymard have been working together for more than 40 years to revitalize the coral reefs in the Caribbean. Together, their passion for marine life and commitment to the preservation of future coral reefs has culminated into Ken’s venture aptly named: Coral Restoration Foundation.
Using a grant from the federal government, along with individual donations, Nedimyer has single-handedly created an underwater coral nursery on the sea floor. Taking “nubs” or “frags”, they are placed on special mounts on the sandy bottom or hung on a line freely. Clear water from offshore ocean currents and sunlight create the perfect conditions for accelerated growth. Once they reach a proper size they are transplanted to a “naked” reef area to start up the growth and development of a new coral reef!
Aquarium Adventure is excited to be part of this vision, and urge all of our customers to “adopt coral” by generously donating to the Coral Restoration Foundation. Donate Here

Aquariums for Teachers
PETS IN THE CLASSROOM PROGRAM
Are you ready to add fish to your classroom?
Pets in the Classroom is an educational grant program that provides financial support to teachers to purchase and maintain small animals in the classroom. The program was established by the Pet Care Trust to provide children with an opportunity to interact with pets—an experience that can help to shape their lives for years to come.
Teachers Turn to Classroom Pets to Teach Social and Emotional Skills
An article published by Ed Source Magazine discusses how classroom pets impact students by teaching social and emotional skills, such as self-awareness, self-management, responsibility and relationship building.
Encouraging Responsibility and Leadership
Far and away, the most common use of classroom pets among surveyed teachers was to build responsibility and leadership among their students, particularly in the area of caring for other living things (primarily feeding, watering, grooming, cleaning enclosures/aquariums, providing attention and opportunities for physical activity, and/or enriching the animal’s environment). “I teach [the students] how to care for the pet and to always put the pet’s needs first,” remarked one teacher. “Student enthusiasts share their knowledge with other interested students,” stated another survey respondent. “These students also direct younger students on the care, feeding and handling [of the animal].” The use of animals to encourage responsibility and leadership was also a very common theme among interview participants.
Providing Calm, Relaxation, and Relief from Stress and Anxiety
According to many survey and interview participants, another common use of classroom pets (particularly fish) was to bring a sense of calm and relaxation to their students. One participant shared that, “watching the fish helps students relax and is a great change of pace from electronics and the busy lives that most of [them] experience.” Moreover, classroom pets were described as being particularly helpful for children who are stressed, tense, or in need of de-escalation. “To see a child light up when it is their turn to feed [the pet], or to quietly sit with an upset child and just…watch…as they calm, is such a gift,” shared one teacher. In addition to the animals themselves, “the sights and sounds” of the fish aquariums were also described as a unique “calming force” in the school environment. For example, one teacher believed that, “the sound of [running] water is soothing in the classroom.”
“We can relate caring for the fish to values such as caring for animals, caring for the world, respect for life, and so much more.”
The Florida Aquarium has created a curriculum developed for the Fish in the Classroom Outreach Program, based on Sunshine State Standards and the requirements of classroom aquarium care. Lesson topics include setting up an aquarium, water testing, fish observations, and experiments. The Fish in the Classroom lessons focus on: Increasing student knowledge of water chemistry, fish biology, and aquarium care; Preparing students to care for live animals in an aquarium; and skills such as reading, recording observations, graphing, building models, and critical thinking.
Aquarium Adventure has joined with Pets in the Classroom.org to provide an aquarium set up with fish to the schools and teachers in their surrounding areas. Teachers can apply for a grant (and reimbursement of $125 with purchase receipt) to be used for a Hagen Fluval 9 gallon Flex aquarium set up. The set up* will include the aquarium, filter with media, hood with light and remote, 5# of gravel (substrate), water conditioner, heater, food, fish net and an Aquarium Adventure $50 Gift Card for the purchase of fish and decorations——a $175 retail value!*
*The aquarium set up (retail of $130) will be sold to the teacher for the $125 grant amount, along with a free gift card worth $50 from Aquarium Adventure
